Velva PSA: a new competitor for the virtual Renault Twizy

This or a Peugeot, as one might think, or a Citroen or even a car. Halfway between the car and the scooter, the Velva is a study signed by PSA which could be a formidable competitor Renault Twizy.

Mobility in the city continues to inspire manufacturers. After the Urban Concept Audi, the Volkswagen and Opel RAK NILS e, lo, the PSA has Velva, an electric vehicle designed for the city. Unlike its competitors virtual, the Velva waited forum ADEME, Agency for Environment and Energy Management to be in the open. 

On the aesthetic level, the machine has the aesthetic of a Peugeot. Moreover, the Lion, with its expertise in two wheels, would probably have the legitimacy to market such a model. The trapezoidal grille, spoked wheels and even the steering wheel are all square stylistic features reminiscent of some of its concepts. We also know that the manufacturer has recently abandoned a project vehicle very similar to this one. Even the name "Velva" for "light electric vehicle city" is reminiscent of the famous VLV marketed by the brand during the second world war. 

The Velva surprises with its mass of 650 kg rather high. However, PSA says that the device is compatible with passive safety standards imposed on cars. Unlike the German concepts presented in Frankfurt on Velva is able to accommodate three people. Its 8.5 kWh battery developed by SAFT give a range of 100 km. The "power train" high of 20 kW designed with Valeo, GKN and Leroy Somer and Michelin allows it to reach 110 km / h top speed, enough to face all the ring roads. It consists of a single electric motor at the front of the vehicle. 

Like other similar studies revealed this fall, Velva will not be marketed immediately. Renault will therefore be the only manufacturer to lead the way in December with the launch of its Twizy.
