Mazda Hazumi Concept Teased, Previews Next-Gen Mazda2

Home  >  WOT  >  Mazda Hazumi Concept Teased, Previews Next-Gen Mazda2 The Mazda2 is an enthusiast favorite in the subcompact class, but it's not getting any younger. Mazda will finally offer us a glimpse into that car's future at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, when it unveils the Hazumi concept. A teaser image revealing the concept's headlight hints at Kodo design language, but doesn't offer much else in the way of details. Mazda says the Hazumi is a "dynamic new subcompact concept" with a name that means "bound" or "spring up" in Japanese. The automaker says the name fits, as the concept "appears to be bursting with energy." Given how nice the larger Mazda3 is to drive, you can expect that liveliness won't be limited just to its design. Past rumors suggested the next Mazda2's styling would be more feminine, and that it might not even make it to the U.S. due to shrinking sales volumes. Whatever Mazda has planned, we should find out more next month in Geneva. The Japanese automaker will also debut a smaller 1.5-liter Skyactiv-D diesel engine, and will set up a display celebrating the Mazda Miata's 25th anniversary. With the U.S. launch of the Mazda6 diesel further delayed, it's unclear if we'll ever see the smaller oil-burning mill on our shores. Mazda will unveil the Hazumi concept and the 1.5-liter Skyactiv-D on March 4 in Geneva. Until then, if you want to have a better idea what to expect for the next '2, check out the teaser shot and just imagine the Mazda3's looks shrunken down to B-segment proportions.
